Successful Relationships

20120802-201016.jpg I’ve read the other day in psychology magazine that one of the purpose of relationships was to heal childhood wounds. Now that puzzled me as I’ve always held the belief that one should first sort themselves out before being able to be in a healthy relationship. So what is that all about?

I created that belief out of my relationship history. I’ve dated quite a few men and had a few serious relationships in the past sixteen years and none of them was particularly healthy nor successful. Being a big fan of self-development, I’ve analysed endlessly what went wrong in my relationships, what part was my responsibility and what unhealthy patterns were at play. I discovered that I didn’t love myself, didn’t respect myself, suffered from codependency and counter-dependency, had a fear of abandon and a fear of intimacy. Among others.

I was reading this touching story from one of the forwarded mails and I suddenly realize that there are tears running down my cheeks. I was telling myself to control… it would be so embarrassing to cry that way in office sitting at my desk. But they don’t stop at all and I had to run to the washroom to clean my already reddened face.

It happened to me many times, when I really wanted to put a brave face and not cry at all, but my brain and eyes betray me. It was then, I decided to do a bit of research on net, that why some people cry more than others.

Interestingly, the actual reason why tears are more in some people than others is not yet established. Nevertheless, here are my findings :-p
